Township Events Announcements

Youth Sports Reports

Maurer reported the sports season is proceeding well with no weather-related cancellations. Maintenance issues were discussed, including the need to fill in stones on steps leading to the field.

The board discussed concerns about insufficient playground lighting during evening sports events. Currently, lighting is limited to pavilions and pathways. The board noted that while park hours are technically dawn to dusk, consideration should be given to coordinating playground lighting with field lighting during scheduled evening events.

Trails Report

Kane reported on the status of the Pickering Trail. A volunteer has been maintaining the section near Charlestown Road, including recent chainsaw work on fallen trees. Illegal dumping of vinyl flooring was reported; some has been removed, with the remainder to be addressed during Trail Day. Two to three fallen trees require chainsaw work, and several bridges that were washed away need to be relocated.

Charlestown Township Park and Brightside Farm Update

Robinson reported that Ed Theurkauf completed an inspection of Charlestown Park. Multiple maintenance issues were identified, including broken wooden picnic table benches near the foot bridge and under the press box structure. The board discussed incorporating these repairs into the Scout program’s service projects.

It was noted that the recently installed volleyball court net has been damaged due to children hanging on it. The board discussed installing a spring-loaded, retractable net system as a potential solution.

EAC Updates

None

Scout Program Report

Robinson outlined the development of a three-part Scout program structure:

The board is developing a pre-approved project list for Board of Supervisors review. Plans include maintenance of existing scout projects and a potential program for local troops to maintain existing park’s projects.

Trail and Park Kiosks

The Trail and Park Kiosks discussion was postponed to the November meeting.

New Business

Charlestown Day Recap

Charlestown Day was held despite rainy conditions. The event, while smaller than previous years, was successful with notable highlights including a last-minute food truck replacement and an enthusiastic response to the children’s trash cleanup activity, which attracted approximately 20 participants. The board discussed expanding future event promotion across multiple community pages.

Other Business

Yoga In The Park

The board discussed a suggestion for bringing back Yoga in the Park, noting that previous attempts had low attendance. Combining it with another event, like the Brunch, or hosting at alternative locations, including the Mill, were considered.

Adjournment was at 7:27 p.m
